Chanting for Peace and Protection
Author: Deva Scott Robertshaw
This month's post is dedicated to the theme of peace, with the current situation in Ukraine in mind. Our recent events have been dedicated to the people of Ukraine, including a number of bhakti yogis facing especially challenging circumstances there.
We have chanted the mantra Om Namo Bhagavate Narasimhaya. Narasimha is the name for the Divine in the form of a ferocious lion, and he appeared to save one of his worshippers from a tyrannical king who had attempted to torture him. Narasimha is also referred to as the source of all power and bhakti yogis all around the world call on him in times of fear and weakness, or when in need of protection, and so, it is definitely the mantra to chant in the face of the all suffering and destruction going on right now.
All funds raised by both of our Friday kirtans have been donated to projects supporting Ukraine, including the work of our friends’ charity Food for All, who recently drove to the Polish border to distribute free meals to the refugees.
We invite you to join us every Friday at one of our two weekly events: the Mantra Lounge in Covent Garden or at OmNom in Islington which are wonderful weekly opportunities to uplift the heart and pray for peace.
