MANTRAS - CHANT WITH US
Mantra - a sacred word or a meaningful composition of words that helps the mind to reach a higher consciousness and expresses a prayer, or a desire to serve or be close to the Divine. Because it is spiritual sound, it can immediately connect us with our truest self. In other words, it feels good.
Maha Mantra
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare
the Maha mantra is arguably one of the most famous mantras, sung by the Beatles, Russell Brand and Boy George, and featured in ad campaigns for Levis and Kit Kat. Its three words, ‘Hare’, ‘Krishna’ and ‘Rama’ directly call to the energy and personality of God, in a prayer for connection.
Sita Ram
Shri Ram Jaya Ram Jaya Jaya Ram
Sita Ram Jaya Sita Ram
In Sanskrit, ‘Shri’ is a honorific title that comes before the name of the Divine, or a great saint. ‘Jaya’ is a joyful word that means ‘victory’ (double strength if you say it twice!). In this mantra it goes alongside the name ‘Rama’, which means, ‘He who is the source of all pleasure’. Sometimes the name of ‘Rama’ is balanced by the name of Goddess ‘Sita’ - bringing the feminine and masculine forms of Divinity together.
Vasudeva
Om Namo
Bhagavate Vasudevaya
‘Om’ is known as a ‘bija’ or seed, and begins many different mantras. ‘Namo’ means to offer respect and ‘bhagavate vasudevaya’ refers the Supreme Person, who is sometimes known as Bhagavan - the one who possesses the greatest degree of fame, wealth, beauty, strength, intelligence and renunciation.
Radhe Shyam
Radhe Shyam
Radhe Govinda
This mantra is a call of the heart: “Oh energy of divinity, oh enchanter of the senses, please accept me.”
Krishna Keshava
krishna keshava krishna keshava krishna keshava pahi mam
rama raghava rama raghava rama raghava raksha mam
This mantra is especially sung for invoking protection. It is an appeal, first calling to the Supreme Person, known by the names, ‘Krishna’, ‘Keshava’, ‘Rama’ and ‘Raghava’. ‘Pahi mam’ means ‘please guide me’, and ‘raksha mam’ means, ‘please protect me’.
Govinda jaya jaya
govinda jaya jaya/ gopala jaya jaya/ radha ramana hari/ govinda jaya jaya
‘Jaya’ is a joyful word that means ‘victory’ (double strength if you say it twice!). In this mantra it goes alongside different names of the Divine - Govinda, Gopala, Radha Ramana and Hari. Each name describes a different beautiful characteristic, like “one who protects the senses”, or “one who takes away all obstacles”.
